Hello!
It has come to our attention that there is an error in the ATI dosage calculation practice tutorials. The question can be found in ATI dosage calc 3.0/dosages by weight/activity 7. We alerted ATI to the issue recently, but it has not yet been corrected. Please see Below for the correct answer:
The lowest recommended mg per dose is 668mg/dose The highest recommended mg per dose is 3200mg/dose.
Within the equation the client is 11 years old, 88 pounds (40kg), and is receiving cefuroxime 2500 mg intermittent IV bolus every 8 hours (0700, 1500, 2300).
The recommended dose for infants and children 3 months to 12 years is IV/IM 16.7-80 mg/kg every 8 hours. (Maximum dose 6g/day).
The question asked was, based on the determined lowest and highest recommended dosages of cefuroxime, the nurse can conclude which of the following.
A. The prescribed dose is lower than the lowest recommended dose.
B. The prescribed dose is higher than the highest recommended dose.
C. The prescribed dose is safe to give to client.
The answer listed is C: the 2500mg falls within the 668-3200mg/dose range every 8 hours.
But the correct answer is B: 2500mg every 8 hours exceed the 6g/day maximum, therefore making this unsafe
Please let me know if you have any questions!
