Good morning.
COVID 19 has impacted our lives in many ways. We know that our underrepresented communities are experiencing disparities at alarming rates. Despite making up only 1% of the US population, Filipinos make up 4% of the US nursing workforce, making them the largest group of internationally educated nurses in the country. Furthermore, Filipinos account for 31.5% of all US nurses who have died during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we recognize the diversity that October has to offer, lets acknowledge the commitment of our Filipino nurses to the health of communities and celebrate Filipino American History Month (thank you Jonathan Yatco for this contribution).
Some students have expressed how difficult it has been during COVID 19 restrictions and may be experiencing a sense of disconnect with the campus community. As faculty, we work very hard to connect with each of our students. However, there are other resources that can assist to promote a sense of inclusion.
The University has several great resources and below is a link to the cultural centers that the University has to offer. Please share the link with your students.
