Contract Psychometrician

Overview
The University of Chicago Urban Education Institute has an opening for
an independent contractor position as a psychometrician for the STEP
Intermediate Literacy Assessment Project. For this project, we are
developing an objective, evidence-based measure of fluent readers’
literacy skills for students in grades 3-6. This assessment will link
to the existing STEP Literacy Assessment (uchicagoimpact.org/step) for
students in grades PreK-3 and will take into account contemporary views
of reading by focusing on the ways students construct meaning from
fiction and non-fiction texts. The assessment will consist of some
computer-based items, an oral reading comprehension conference with the
assessor/teacher, as well as online constructed response essays.

Job Description
A Ph.D. in educational measurement, statistics, quantitative or
cognitive psychology, biometrics, or a related field with an emphasis on
quantitative analysis, and Rasch measurement. At least three years of
experience in an applied measurement or statistical analysis
environment, including test equating and vertical scaling is required.
This position requires initiative, creativity, technical expertise, and
an ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences. This is a
limited term independent contractor position. Anticipated initial
contract length is 12-18 months.

Responsibilities include: review of current assessment materials,
assisting content team in the development of assessment items (both
computer-based and orally administered), assistance in design of pilot
and field study, analysis of student data, and write-up of technical
report. Background working in field of elementary education strongly
preferred.
