Dear all,

1. Please join us for today's probability seminar, details below.
Title: 1-2 model, Path Probability and Phase Transition
Speaker: Zhongyang Li (University of Connecticut)
Time: Friday, November 14, 2014 at 3:30 pm
Place: MSB 109A
Abstract: A 1-2 model is a probability measure on edge subsets of a hexagonal
lattice, satisfying the condition that each vertex is incident to 1 or 2 present edges.
We construct a measure-preserving correspondence between 1-2 model
configurations on the hexagonal lattice and dimer configurations on a decorated
graph, and prove a closed form to compute the probability that a path appears in a
1-2 model configuration. With the help of the mass transport principle, we prove
that almost surely there are no infinite paths in a 1-2 model configuration for any
translation-invariant Gibbs measure. We also prove that almost surely there is at
most 1 infinite homogeneous cluster in a 1-2 model configuration under any
translation-invaraint Gibbs measure. By investigating the behaviour of edge-edge
correlations with changing parameters, we prove that there is a sharp phase
transition in the 1-2 model, with critical parameter given by the condition that the
spectral curve intersect the unit torus at a unique real point.

Dinner for Women in Probability:
Women in Probability is an organization for women active in probability research.
Our primary purpose is to provide networking and mentoring opportunities for
early career women. Our activities are funded by the NSF. For more information on
Women in Probability and its activities, please visit our website
http://womeninprobability.org

We will be hosting a dinner following the Northeast Probability Seminar on Friday,
November 21. We can offset costs for women graduate student and postdoc dinner
attendees. The invitation is open to all, and anyone interested in participating in
the dinner should please email Tai Melcher ([log in to unmask]).

There are still available funds.

The NSF grant allows us to offer some financial support to participants from US
Universities. We will give preference to graduate students, postdocs, women and
minorities, and junior faculty.

Applicants for this financial support should provide:

* a one-page letter explaining their interest in the seminar and its relation to their
research interests

* a current CV

* graduate students and postdocs should also arrange for a letter of
recommendation to be sent from their advisor or some expert familiar with their
work

Materials should be sent either by e-mail (preferred) or postal mail to:
