Have to disagree with having two different screens. In my opinion, you can never match the brightness, contrast, and color. For me at least, having two different monitors drives me crazy (some folks would say I'm crazy anyway). I have 2-24 inch Dell U2412M monitors and I am very happy. A standard aspect monitor provide you with more height. The widescreen, as the name implies, provides more width. To get the same height as a 21" standard aspect monitor, you need a 24" widescreen (typically).
I would also recommend utilizing the display port option and making sure the monitor/video card supports the audio feed. This can reduce the amount of cabling you need to run to your workstation. May not be an issue if your PC is close to your PC.

We've been using 2x 24"monitors w/ a 16:10 ratio for CAD work & just explored some options.
We also use Bluebeam to view/review our 22x34 PDF contract sheets published from the CAD files. Some folks like to see the full PDF on the screen and have text legible. 24" presentation/full screen mode barely makes it.
The new 27" monitors have a 16:9 rather than the old 16:10 ratio. These won't give you much more height than the 24, so the for PDF viewing scale doesn't change too much, but you do get some more real estate for GIS/CAD programs.
2x 30" are WAY TOO BIG! You have to sit way too far back due to the peripheral range.
After beating this up a bit, a few of us would highly recommend going with only one 30" (if you can afford it), and keeping a 19".
Use the old 19" in portrait orientation. This will reduce total head movement when paired w/ the bigger monitor and give you a screen to keep Word or email up.
As Dan just mentioned, three screens are real nice, but consider the open applications.
Heck, go for nine monitors so your office can play GIS Hollywood Squares at the next holiday party ;)

The screens never seem to be big enough in my opinion. I would go with at least two 24" screens. If you can swing it, go for a third screen. It takes GIS to a whole different level.
