Dear Colleagues,

We are organizing a summer workshop on challenges in probability and mathematical physics in Montréal, from July 9-20, 2018, as a satellite activity of the International Congress of Mathematical Physics. The URL for the workshop is http://problab.ca/icmp2018

We are writing to ask you if you would be interested in taking part in the program. If so, you may indicate your interest at the following URL: http://problab.ca/icmp2018/?page_id=34

Please feel free to share this email with others who may be interested.

Requests for financial support should be sent by January 15, 2018 to ensure full consideration. Other things being equal, we intend to prioritize supporting junior researchers, and participants who will attend the entire workshop. If it is easy for you to cover your expenses from other sources, it will increase the total number of individuals we can invite.

Our intention is to create a gathering of different groups of collaborators in Montréal, with a very light schedule of lectures in order to leave plenty of time for collaborative work and informal interactions between participants. A priority will be communication between subfields, and the exposition of techniques developed in different fields.

The program will contain some days which are focused on specific areas within probability and mathematical physics. Some of the themes which will be addressed include: random matrices; spin glasses; interacting particle systems; random walks in disordered media; two-dimensional percolation and related lattice models; branching processes; and random graphs. The precise topics and final schedule will be a function of the participants. Speakers will be requested to present their perspective on the central research goals of their area. In doing so, some may choose to use their own research as a lens. We will request that all presenters give take the time to make their presentations expository and instructive, and with a primary focus on what remains to be solved and the challenges ahead.

If there are any matters about the program that you wish to discuss, do not hesitate to contact any one of us.

We hope to welcome you to Montreal in 2018.

Yours sincerely,

Louigi Addario-Berry, Omer Angel and Alexander Fribergh
