Given the rapidly changing situation related to COVID-19 and as a follow up to President Katsouleas’ email last night, we’d like to provide the following information to help you determine the course of action for your student employees for the next few weeks. We understand students rely on their earnings from student employment for essential needs and would encourage you to be as understanding and flexible as possible these next few weeks.
-Federal Work-Study -
If your student employee is funded through the Federal Work-Study program, the Department of Education has provided broad authority to institutions to continue to pay students their normally scheduled hours, even if they are unable to perform their duties. Because of this guidance, you may process your students’ timesheets for regularly scheduled hours so they can continue to be paid. This practice can only take place until April 6th, when the University is scheduled to resume normal operations.
-Student Labor-
If your student employee is funded via student labor, the decision lies with the Department and/or Division on how to handle your student employee earnings. We encourage you to be as flexible as possible, but to determine next steps with your Director, Department Head, or Vice-President.
