This webinar will provide evidence-based updates on COVID-19 topics:
Early proning & Effective communication with mechanically ventilated patients.
Proning mechanically ventilated patients with severe, acute respiratory illness or injury has been used in clinical practice for many years. However, early proning (in an attempt to avoid the need for mechanical ventilation) has gained attention in caring for patients with COVID-19. In this presentation, we will present the evidence on early proning, including the physiology of proning and clinical implications.

Communication difficulty is one of the most common and most bothersome symptoms reported by mechanically ventilated patients. Patients with COVID-19 face the additional communication challenges of interpreting messages from care providers through PPE masks and isolation from family members. We will present techniques adapted from communication disorders science that have been applied and tested with mechanically ventilated ICU patients according to a clinical decision pathway.

About the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare
The Ohio State University College of Nursing officially launched the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice (EBP) in Nursing and Healthcare in October 2017 after receiving a $6.5 million gift from the Helene Fuld National Health Trust.
Formerly known as the Center for Transdisciplinary Evidence-based Practice (CTEP), the Fuld Institute for EBP is a national hub for the dissemination, teaching and creation of best practices to improve healthcare quality, safety, costs and patient outcomes. Its cores include transdisciplinary clinical practice, academics, consumer education and EBP implementation science.
