Dear Student Supervisors,
We write today to update you on student labor guidance through the summer terms, as well as provide recommendations on how to prepare for new student employee hiring processes for the fall.
As you know, the decision to continue online instruction has been made through the summer terms. Given this, we are extending our guidance for remote work arrangements through the entirety of the summer sessions. We do not anticipate that we will reach suitable conditions for our student employees to return to in person job assignments through this time.
There is blanket approval for remote work arrangements during this time. Departments may only pay students for actual hours worked in person or remotely.
For the Fall hiring process, we are encouraging written offer letters be given to student employees, using the template attached. This format has been approved by Human Resources and accounts for the potential for remote arrangements through the Fall term, even though it will be some time until we know if online instruction will continue that long.
We encourage you to make use of the online COVID FAQ resources for student labor and payroll.
Sincerely,
Cindy Garrison
Student Employment Officer
