Ocean Associates Inc. (OAI) is excited to announce an opening for a full-time GIS Developer to support NOAA's National Ocean Service (NOS), Office of Coast Survey (OCS). This role is instrumental in building and maintaining bathymetric data and workflows that support safe navigation and various oceanographic needs across the U.S. This is a great opportunity for those passionate about environmental science and marine resources.
Position Overview:
Start Date: November 1, 2024
Salary: $48 - $55 per hour (commensurate with experience)
Location: Remote (or NOAA facilities in MD, WA, VA, NH)
Key Responsibilities Include:
Python-based automation for data processing
Workflow development using open-source tools like PROJ and GDAL
QGIS plugin development and web services integration
Supporting bathymetric data pipelines and hydrographic workflows
Collaborating with internal NOAA teams and external stakeholders on various GIS projects
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree (MS + 8 yrs relevant experience or BS + 10 yrs relevant experience) in GIS, hydrographic science, or a closely related field
Proficiency in Python, GIS web services, C/C++, and database design
Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and collaboration tools
