ENGL 1003: Writing American Academic English for Multi-Lingual Students
ENGL 1003 is a writing course designed for students whose first language is not English and who are unfamiliar with writing in an American university setting. The course introduces students to American university discourse by emphasizing classroom participation, discussion, and writing to help develop facility with English in the academy. The course is not primarily a language course, although grammar and pronunciation will be addressed when appropriate. In this particular version of the course, the activities will be directed at general improvement of writing and speaking in American academic English rather than focused on students' existing graduate school projects.

At present, this course is open to graduate and undergraduate students. We encourage graduate students to enroll in any of the spring, 2014, sections of ENGL 1003.

Class size is limited to 15.
