This two-hour English as a second language (ESL) workshop will focus on the general properties of the U.S. academic prose. The rhetorical patterns of the U.S. academic prose typically follows predictable sequences, which is what distinguishes it from writing styles in many other cultures. Through a number of interactive activities, we will discuss most common mistakes ESL writers make at the paragraph and textual levels. We will then practice which particular moves are necessary for meeting reader’s expectations and producing a reader-friendly text. Open to all UConn students.
