Academic Training Workshop for J-1 Students

Next week ISSS will hold a workshop for J-1 students who are interested in learning about or applying for Academic Training (AT). AT is a benefit of the J-1 student visa categories that gives authorization to do internships, experiential learning or practicum courses related to their field of study at UConn. AT can be done during the academic program or after completing one’s course of study.

Who can do AT?: J-1 visa holders in the student categories. Look at your DS-2019 form to see what your J-1 visa category is. If it is Non-Degree Student, Student Bachelor’s, Student Master’s, or Student Doctoral then you may be eligible to do AT.

Who cannot do AT?: J-1 visa holders who are here for research, teaching or training are not eligible to do AT, even if you are a student in your home country. This includes the following J-1 visa categories: Research Scholar, Short Term Scholar, Professor, Specialist, Student Intern. Check your DS-2019 form to see what category applies to you. If you are in one of these categories this workshop is not appropriate for your category of J-1 visa. F-1 students cannot do AT- they should look at other workshops for Practical Training offered by ISSS.

Sign up is required at www.icworkshops.uconn.edu > Available Events > Academic Training Workshop.
