An interesting study was recently released in the medical journal Pediatrics about gun injuries in children.  The study was conducted by my colleague Dr. John Leventhal from Yale-New Haven Hospital's Child Abuse Program.  The study looked at data from Emergency Rooms across the country and concluded that "on average, 20 US children and adolescents were hospitalized each day in 2009 due to firearm injuries."  And argued that "Public health efforts are needed to reduce this common source of childhood injury."

There has been a lot of media coverage and discussion about the study, including an article by CBC News here: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/firearm-injuries-hospitalize-about-20-us-kids-a-day-study/
