Connecticut should actively address absenteeism [March 24, Page 1, "Taking Aim At Chronic Absences"]. Improving school attendance increases achievement, reduces dropout rates and keeps children out of the juvenile justice system. From kindergarten through third grade, 8.2 percent of Connecticut students miss more than 10 percent of the school year. By high school, it is 16.2 percent.
