GIS Planning Intern


The Council of Governments of the Central Naugatuck Valley has an opportunity for an individual to work approximately 20-35 hours per week for 10-12 weeks during the summer of 2014.  This position will assist GIS staff in field mapping sidewalks, trails, and other assets throughout the CNV region utilizing a GPS unit, cell phone, or tablet.    You will be required to perform this field work on bicycle or on foot.  Other duties may include creating, modifying, and maintaining GIS spatial datasets, or assembling census data for our regional profile. You must be available to work the beginning of June through August.

Qualifications:

  *   Undergraduate and/or graduate students with an interest in planning, geography, GIS
  *   Proficient in GIS (ESRI ArcGIS 10.x and extensions)
  *   Knowledge of principles of cartography
  *   Knowledge of ArcGIS Online
  *   Familiar with compiling and mapping census data
  *   Ability to Operate GPS units (ArcPad experience is a plus)
  *   Ability to work independently and in the outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  *   Valid driver's license and own transportation required.
