Medical-Legal Partnership Project, Center for Children's Advocacy Part-time Paralegal (20 hours/week) Community Resource, Paralegal, Special Projects and Data Analyst Position The Medical-Legal Partnership (MLPP) at the Center for Children's Advocacy has an opening for a part-time paralegal to assist project attorneys at the Center's offices at partner hospitals in Hartford and New Haven (Connecticut Children's Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital, Yale-New Haven Hospital). Description The MLPP is an innovative, interdisciplinary medical-legal collaboration that improves health outcomes for poor children. The paralegal working with the MLPP: * Collects and records data on referrals, consultations, and cases * Provides initial screening and intake of client referrals and connects families to appropriate resources as needed * Provides administrative support which includes requesting client records, drafting letters, organizing files, preparing for trainings and clinics * Coordinates volunteers and interns working with MLPP * Conducts follow up with families after services have been provided and collects data on outcomes * Works on special projects as needed * Analyzes MLPP statistics and outcomes * Provides data and outcome measurements to development staff for grant applications. Candidates should have: * Knowledge of child advocacy law including Medicaid, public benefits, housing, SSI, special education * Excellent communication and writing skills * Ability to identify, analyze and creatively resolve complex problems * Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team * Demonstrated commitment to advocacy for low-income children and families * Two or more years of related legal experience * Knowledge of the health care field * Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred The paralegal will be employed by the Center for Children's Advocacy, but will work with MLPP attorneys at sites in Hartford and New Haven.
