Immigration Options for Children: Focus on Abused and Neglected Children

Abused and neglected immigrant children have limited options for immigration relief. One option includes Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), a federal law that helps certain undocumented children and youth who have been abused, abandoned or neglected to obtain lawful immigration status. Other options include protections for those who have been victims of persecution, crimes, or trafficking.

This seminar will cover:

 * How to identify immigration options for children
 * An overview of SIJS in CT state courts
 * An overview of asylum: who may qualify and who to call
 * T and U visas: for victims of trafficking and other crimes - who may qualify and who to call
 * Family petitions: who may qualify and who to call
 * Access to education and benefits for immigrant children
