GIS Web Developer / Programmer
We seek a GIS Web Developer / Programmer to support redevelopment,
implementation, maintenance and updating of the NJ MAP project. The
selected candidate will be responsible for the front-end user interface,
data development as well as the necessary web-mapping server backend.

SUMMARY:
NJ MAP (Municipal Asset Profiler) is a web-based GIS data access tool that
provides unique approaches to data visualization and dynamic data
animations for local level stakeholders. The project leverages the vast
quantity of NJ public GIS data and delivers them in an open and easy to
understand platform accessible to non-GIS experts. The interface is
intended to work effectively across computing platforms including Mobile
devices in order to provide users real-time access to geospatial data in
support of local environmental planning and sustainability activities. The
ideal candidate will demonstrate outstanding skills in current web-based
GIS mapping technology, web design aesthetics and functionality, web
backend development, extensive familiarity with GIS data and geospatial
database management. The candidate is also expected to work well within a
dynamic academic collaborative environment.

REQUIREMENTS:
3 – 5 years experience with web development technologies, specifically
demonstrable competency in:
HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, JQuery (including popular plugins), Leaflet (and
other mapping APIs), XML, JSONP, Bootstrap (or other responsive web
frameworks), Python programming (including familiarity with Psycopg2,
web.py, csv, and xlwt modules, as well as the ability to create and
maintain in-house modules), Node.JS, PostgreSQL (including PL/pgSQL and
PostGIS), Apache httpd, Apache Tomcat, GeoServer 2.X.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:.
• Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary collaborative team
environment
• Demonstrated ability to plan development time effectively and provide
realistic timeframes for implementation
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with current software project management and design
techniques.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Development of a new UI/UX for the NJ MAP project that incorporates
responsive design elements, using a framework such as Twitter Bootstrap
• Development of an API for NJ MAP, allowing third-parties access to data
and services provided by the platform
• Development new project "themes" as defined by NJ MAP project leads
• Coordination of diverse technologies and toolkits
• Management of web application and database servers
• Custom tool creation for new report generation from a variety of sources
(conventional GIS & RDBMS platforms) to various output formats, such as
CSV, Microsoft Excel and PDF.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Computer
Engineering, Geographic Information Systems, Geography or a related field
with extensive experience in web-mapping application development. Post
baccalaureate credentials a plus.
