Thanks again for everybody who gave me advice on Post script for plotters.  I appreciate it.

One more question, we have the option of getting next day covered service on a plotter for the first 3 to 4 years.  It’s kind of pricey (around $2500).  Is it worth it for those first few years to have service on it or just wait until it is older and then get a service plan?  Having our plotter fixed the next day is also not a big issue for us, either.

Thanks again.

Subject: Yet another plotter/large format printer question

We are looking to possibly replace our large format printer and are at a crossroads. We are trying to decide if we need the PostScript option with a printer (adds $1000’s to cost).  My question to the group is whether or not it is necessary for printing GIS maps and posters?  We mainly print directly from ArcMap or a Microsoft product (ex. Visio) or print a PDF version of either.  Sometimes this print jobs require printing images, like orthos.

Thanks.
