Dear International Student and Scholars,

The deadline to file your 2014 tax forms is fast approaching!  Remember to submit your tax returns by April 15, 2015. If you have not yet submitted your tax return forms, please read the following:

-          UCONN Vita Tax Sessions are completely full. UConn’s VITA program is no longer taking student/scholar appointments for tax preparation. If you already attend a UConn VITA Tax Session you can pick up your completed tax returns on Thursdays, from 5 pm to 7 pm in room 106 in the School of Business.  Remember that you must mail in these tax returns according to the instructions by April 15.

-          Other ways to prepare your tax returns:

o        Attend the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Site in Willimantic. The VITA volunteers in Willimantic are trained to prepare nonresident alien tax returns.  http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Checklist-for-Free-Tax-Return-Preparation . This VITA site is open Saturday,  April 4th and Saturday April 11th, from 9 am to 2 pm. Address: 1315 Main Street #2, Willimantic, CT 06266. No appointment is necessary. The IRS lists the documents you should bring to your VITA Site here: http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Checklist-for-Free-Tax-Return-Preparation

o         Use one of the online software programs designed for international students and scholars. There are two programs that you can use, for a fee, to prepare your tax returns. The costs to use these programs to file your forms vary.  You must print, sign and mail in the completed tax forms by April 15 after preparing them using the online software.  These programs include:

§  Glacier Tax Prep https://www.glaciertax.com/  (Prepares federal tax forms only)

§  Sprintax https://www.sprintax.com/ (Prepares federal and state tax forms)

Students and Scholars with No Income: Remember that if you were present in the U.S. during 2014 with an F or J visa, you may still need to complete the Form 8843 and send it to the IRS.
