The Town of York, a coastal community comprised of the villages of Cape Neddick, York Harbor, York Village and York Beach, is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Town Planner

The purpose of this position is to assist the Town Planner with performing municipal planning functions and provide staff services to the Planning Board for the Town.  This position reports to the Town Planner.  Duties include, but are not limited to: reviewing development proposals for compliance with town ordinances; maintaining, updating, and implementing the comprehensive plan; assisting with the development of zoning, subdivision, and related development ordinances; interpreting ordinances; use GIS to prepare planning related zoning maps and providing mapping services for other municipal departments as assigned; performing additional related tasks as assigned by the Town Planner. Work is done with considerable independence and is evaluated by the Town Planner through observation, reports, periodic written reviews, and results obtained.

Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, Landscape Architecture, or closely related field with a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible municipal planning experience required. Masters degree and AICP certification desirable.  Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.

The position is a full-time, exempt, non-bargaining, position and will require attendance at regularly scheduled evening meetings as well as periodic weekend work. Starting salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications.
