Center for Children’s Advocacy
Pro-bono training on Special Immigrant Juvenile Status

Training and technical assistance for attorneys interested in understanding Special Immigrant Juvenile Status to represent undocumented minors who have been abandoned, abused or neglected.

Registrants must attend all three sessions:
Nov. 12, 2015 from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm
Nov. 20, 2015 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Jan. 28, 2016 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

SIJS is a two part process: If the state court, pursuant to a guardianship or child abuse and neglect proceeding, makes specific findings as to the immigrant child, the child can use the court order to apply for SIJS protection with the federal government.

Lawyers who register for this program will receive 18 hours of free legal training and technical assistance, in exchange for agreeing to provide legal representation in probate court for one child or youth. Your potential client will be referred to you by the International Institute of Connecticut.

Registration is limited to 30 people.

Please email Elizabeth Wilson to register.
