Here’s an interesting example of GIS, crowdsourcing, and public participation.

USGS is looking for volunteers to compare pre- and post-storm photos of the East Coast for Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Joaquin.

 

It takes 2 to 3 minutes per photo. The example photos are great too. Think of it as a “what’s different in this picture” game and you’ll be doing a good deed for US coastal science. You don’t need to be a coastal scientist of engineer to do this, just be able to compare photos.
