The Center for Children’s Advocacy is offering free training and technical assistance to Connecticut lawyers who will provide pro-bono legal representation in Probate Court for undocumented minors who may qualify for special immigrant juvenile status (SIJS).

 

The training is open to any attorney regardless of his or her level of experience in child protection or probate matters.

Training includes 18 hours of substantive legal training and technical assistance over three sessions, with two follow-up webinars on advanced SIJS practice. The training sessions will be held at Wiggin and Dana, 265 Church Street, New Haven, CT 06508

 

Registrants must attend all three sessions:
Nov. 12, 2015, 9:30 am - 1 pm
Nov. 20, 2015, 1 pm - 5 pm
Jan. 28, 2016, 1 pm - 5 pm

 

Each participant must commit to provide legal representation in Probate Court for one child or youth. Clients will be referred by the International Institute of Connecticut (IICONN) and attorney’s duties will include client counseling, drafting pleadings and court appearances.
