“Common Traits in the Academic Immigrant:The case of J1/F1, OPT, & H1-B/EB1-B” led by Dr. Adrian Garcia-Sierra (SLHS, UConn) this Friday, 12/11, in Bousfield A106, at 4:00pm.

This special talk concerning diversity in academia is open to all, and we encourage participation to increase understanding of the diverse experiences academics encounter. The academic experience is different for each one of usregardless our background. However, immigrants, like Dr. Garcia-Sierra, need tocope with extra complexity like adapting to a new culture, learning new rules and possibly learning a new language. Dr. Garcia-Sierra will share his experiences as an immigrant from Mexico trying to do “his way” into Tenure, including his personal experiences as a PhD student, post-doc fellow and now as an assistant professor. We also encourage attendants to bring their stories to share during the discussion.
