Duty Statement

GIS Data Development Coordinator will:   -Monitor enterprise databases for facilities and activities that should be mapped. -Coordinate with Regional Offices and DEP Programs to map facilities and features. -Provide quality assurance and enforce metadata standards -Incorporate new information into the central GIS Database including data for;     Public Water Supply sources and protection areas, regulated facilities, release sites of oil and hazardous materials and natural resource data. -Be the primary data steward for the National Hydrologic Dataset in Massachusetts. -Maintain various map libraries when the underlying data has changed.   While the focus of this position is data development, like every member of the GIS Program, this person is expected to contribute anywhere there is need. This may include providing direct support for GIS users and consumers, doing spatial analysis, doing custom cartography, solving problems and providing informal training.

Preferred Work Experience: 

Candidates must have at least four years full time or equivalent part time technical or professional experience working with Geographic Information Systems.(Some education substitution is possible.)  Experience working with ESRI software, spatial geo-databases, versioned geo-databases, ArcMap, and ArcOnLine. Candidates should have experience with, and strong knowledge of, hydrologic spatial data and hydrology. Candidates must be capable of performing detail oriented work.   Preferred Experience: An advanced degree in Geography, Hydrology or Environmental Science would be welcome. Previous experience working with NHD. Managing events on a spatial network. The ability configure and adapt ESRI web mapping templates. The ability to program in Python and / or Java Script.
