SENIOR POLICY FELLOW Organization Description Connecticut Voices for Children is a research and policy organization that works at the state and federal levels to advance strategic public investment and wise public policies to benefit Connecticut's children, youth, and families. Position Summary Connecticut Voices for Children seeks an experienced professional with excellent research, writing, quantitative, and analytical skills; outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills; a keen understanding of the policy-making process; the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences; the ability to work independently and in teams, and to manage and mentor junior staff; a commitment to data-driven, research-based, independent, open-minded, and objective analysis; interest and/or experience in child welfare, juvenile justice, early childhood, health, and/or two-generation strategies; and a passion to ensure that all children have an equal chance to succeed in life. Major Responsibilities * Work with senior policy team to set research and advocacy priorities * Conduct quantitative and qualitative policy-related research * Prepare policy reports, briefs, fact sheets, presentations, memos, and other content * Present policy and research information to a variety of audiences, including policymakers, health and human service providers, advocacy organizations, and news media * Analyze, testify on, and advocate for or against state legislative and budget proposals * Offer technical assistance and legislative and administrative recommendations to policymakers * Manage relationships with, and represent Connecticut Voices for Children, in local, state, and national coalitions and partnerships * Manage, evaluate, and mentor Associate Policy Fellows * Identify funding opportunities, work with foundation program officers, and write grant proposals and reports * Qualifications * Graduate degree in public policy, public administration, sociology, law, or related field (Ph.D. or J.D. stronglypreferred) * 5 or more years in policy-related research and advocacy; 2 or more years supervisory experience * Quantitative data analysis skills using spreadsheets (Excel), statistical analysis software (SPSS, R, etc.), geographic information systems (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.), and interactive data visualization (Tableau Public, Google Fusion Tables) * Familiarity with state legislative process, and state and federal data sources * Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including ability to communicate complex information to non-expert audiences * Ability to work on multiple tasks in a time-sensitive manner, and to work both independently and collaboratively * Commitment to credible and independent analysis, and attention to detail and accuracy * Ability to think strategically, identify opportunities to advance organizational mission, and develop public policy options * Demonstrated commitment to the mission of Connecticut Voices for Children * Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience.
