*GIS Programmer / Analyst* The Central Transportation Planning Staff (CTPS) is seeking a GIS programmer / analyst to work with other GIS professionals in the Information Technology and Services Group. The selected candidate will conduct spatial analysis and produce cartography to support regional transportation planning, develop data sets used for specific projects and for general reference by the CTPS staff, develop software tools to process spatial and tabular data, and build web applications to make data available to the public. The qualified candidate will have: - A bachelor’s or master’s degree in geography, computer science, or a related field - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Excellent oral and written communication skills - The ability to work both collaboratively and independently - Intellectual curiosity - The ability to quickly ramp-up on new tools and technologies - Familiarity with the fundamental principles of relational databases and a basic knowledge of SQL - Experience developing and running queries with Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server or another ‘enterprise’ database, and/or with MS Access - Demonstrable ability to think algorithmically and to implement algorithms in a programming language, such as Python, JavaScript, C/C++, Java or Visual Basic - Experience performing spatial analysis and creating maps with ESRI’s ArcGIS software - Experience creating and modifying features with the ArcMap editor - Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS - Experience building and debugging tools and applications for the desktop and/or the web Knowledge of the following is desirable, but not required: - Google Maps API or the OpenLayers or Leaflet libraries - Commonly used web client libraries, such as jQuery and D3 - Open-source GIS software, such as GeoServer, Quantum GIS, and PostGIS - ArcMap Spatial Analyst extension and/or Network Analyst extension - Developing ArcMap utilities in Python with the ‘arcpy’ API - Server-side programming in a language such as Cold Fusion (CFML) or PHP - Spatial data servers such as GeoServer, ArcGIS Server or MapServer - Big data tools, such as Google BigQuery - US Census Bureau data sets - Statistical methods and statistical software packages, such as R or SPSS - Caliper’s GISDK language Salary contingent upon qualifications; excellent employee benefit package.
