Hi all,

I experimented with ArcGIS Pro as well when it first came out.
I am normally pretty comfortable with new software and new interfaces but for some reason, ArcGIS Pro just did not seem to make much sense to me.
I am not sure if it was because I didn't "Read the    Manual" or if I just had too much to do to really spend some time on the new interface.
I like the idea of it, but at the time when I was testing it, I think it needed some work.  I then decided to just wait until most of the bugs and issues were worked out.
Guessing that someday I will need to go back to it :)

I will share my experience with ArcGIS Pro
Pros: Great new interface, some data visualizations are a lot faster
Cons: Key features missing (e.g. Topology), documentation could use some improvement, a few annoying bugs, have to create an entire new ArcGIS Pro project for everything you work on, folder connections over a network slower than Desktop ArcCatalog

This is a very interesting topic! Please reply all.

I also have had limited use with ArcGIS Pro. The first time, I was working at a place where I had written under 100 Python Toolboxes. When I realized I would have to rewrite them all in Python 3 in order to do my daily work I went back to using Desktop. I have tried experimenting with it a little bit at my current job, but like you said there always seems to be more pressing matters to take my attention away :)

Happy Friday, Listserv -

Apologies in advance for fueling the rumor mill...

I was recently on a conference call where colleagues were recounting their experiences at the ESRI Federal GIS Users Conference in DC last month.  One attendee mentioned this was the first time ESRI staff acknowledged that ArcGIS Pro will replace ArcMap.

I don't know the context and the timeline wasn't mentioned ... I assume it will be a few years.  I suspect we could see this coming, but thus far the official line has been that ArcGIS Pro is not a replacement for ArcMap. I'm curious if other users have begun hearing the same thing.  Should we all start looking towards transitioning to the ArcGIS Pro platform?

More to the point, I'm interested to learn about your experiences with ArcGIS Pro.  Admittedly, I have limited exposure to it so far... there always seem to be more pressing assignments begging of my attention.

When have you used ArcGIS Pro instead of ArcMap?
What projects have lent well to the transition?
Which ones have fallen short?
If you manage or coordinate other GIS staff/users, have you encouraged them to start using Pro?

Thanks for your feedback.

(I assume this may be of interest to many on the listserv, but if you want to email me directly, I'm happy to compile responses and share a summary with everyone later.)
