Dear Students and Scholars,

Many of you have already participated in a tax workshop or purchased a tax code to fill out your tax forms. Just a reminder that if you have U.S. income from 2015 you MUST file income taxes with the IRS and mail out your tax forms by 4/15/2016. See below for ways

Students and Scholars with NO Income:

Students and scholars with no income will still need to file the tax form 8843 to report on days of presence in F-1/J-1 status in the prior calendar year. You can download the 8843 online here<https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8843.pdf> and should submit this by mail to the IRS.

Students and Scholars with Income:

Students and scholars with income may receive forms for employment income, taxable scholarship income or miscellaneous income. These may be forms W-2, 1042-S or 1099 and you will need these forms when filing your taxes.

1. Fill out your federal tax returns using Sprintax software. You can buy a Sprintax access code from ISSS for $3 to fill out your federal tax return forms. There is an additional fee you can pay directly to Sprintax if you need to fill out CT state tax forms. Visit http://isss.uconn.edu/tax-preparation-resources/ for more information or to purchase your code. Sprintax staff can help answer your tax questions.
