I would be interested in hearing why you want LiDAR and why it has to come from a UAV as there may be other technologies that are more effective given your use case. We found that UAV-based LiDAR systems were still large and cumbersome and rather limiting, especially with respect to the area they could cover. A photogrammetric solution allows you to use a lighter weight UAV to capture data for a larger area and process it within a couple of hours. Photogrammetric point clouds are of course not identical to LiDAR point clouds. I wrote up an article on the topic. Many others have also compared the  technologies.

Subject: UAV LiDAR Acquisition

Hi all--

We're looking into using a UAV for LiDAR acquisition, and I would love to hear about any work that you're doing or have done. Specifically, I'm interested in the type of sensor that you have used and the quality of the data returned.

You can reply to me via this email address or [log in to unmask] (the listserve isn't letting me post from my work email for some reason).

Thanks!
Carolin
