Yale Pediatric Ethics Program Presents

Cassandra C. Revisited: The Ethical Implications of Minor Decision Making in the Healthcare Context

Presentation by Jay Sicklick, JD

Deputy Director, Center for Children's Advocacy and Director, Medical-Legal Partnership Project

The topic for Yale Pediatric Ethics Program’s next evening seminar is one that you may be familiar with … Connecticut’s “Cassandra C.” case, regarding a teenage girl whose refusal of recommended treatment for Hodgkin’s Disease was supported by her mother but overruled by the court.  The discussion is very timely, as this unfortunate young woman is once again in the news.

The seminar is May 25, 2016, 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm in the Cohen Auditorium at the Child Study Center on 230 Frontage Road, New Haven. There will be a presentation by Attorney Sicklick, followed by a 45 minute audience discussion. This seminar will get to the heart of a central question in pediatric ethics. A spirited and informative discussion is anticipated.
