Anna,

For your mentoring efforts you might want to review the Esri ConnectED Program. Esri pledged, through the White House’s ConnectEd Program, free ArcGIS Online licenses to all K-12 schools in the US (public and private).

Also, every July (application deadline is closed for this year) there is an institute for educators who teach teachers GIS. It is offered at Esri HQ in Redlands, and mostly funded. Once you become T3G alumna, you get guidance from the 3TG trainers, plus the T3G community is amazingly committed to the K-12 GIS efforts.

Note: There will be an informal T3G gathering during Esri EdUC in San Diego. If you are attending the conference and interested, send me a note.

I hope this helps,

Miriam

Hi All,

I would like to volunteer in our local school system to teach kids about GIS and all the cool things we do.  Does anyone know of a program or materials that already exist for such an endeavor?  I thought I’d ask you all before I potentially wasted my time coming up with a plan on how to do this.

Thanks for any help you can provide, Anna
