My town recently embarked on a multi-department project to scan millions of pieces of paper and free up space and to stop an ever increasing number of filing cabinets.   We decided on Laserfiche, with General Code as the value added reseller.

Laserfice is a Department of Defense solution that allows for very granular level of permissions.  For now, we are only allowing in-house access but could allow access to the public at a future date.   We are only a few months into implementations and want to make sure documents are properly protected before opening up to the public.

We are using Laserfiche 9.2 which has a client and a web interface.  Laserfiche 10.1 was recently released and I understand that it is more like the web interface.   We use the 9.2 web interface for DPW, who utilizes wireless to access IT services.  Because of the limited bandwidth of the wireless, they are using the web interface.

There is a GIS component to Laserfiche but I have not had time to investigate how we would begin to use it.

Subject: Document Management with GIS map integration

I’m really just looking for examples of other municipalities that are utilizing a document management system with a web browser interface, I can probably manage the integration with a GIS based mapping system separately.

The system would have to have the ability to have separate public versus internal permissions. We are looking at Treeno because another Dept. in the City uses it, but I would like to hear what other towns/cities are using.
