Hi Jill,

We use Tableau quite a lot – it allows user to do scenario/data modeling very efficiently.  To bring GIS data into Tableau, we use FME technology, as FME supports Tableau as native format to write to.

My understanding is that later this year Tableau will add support for a geometry field – which will be a big step towards GIS support/functionality.

Thank you,

Alexander

Subject: Mapping with Tableau

Have any of you done work in mapping in Tableau? How does it compare to ArcMap basic? Can you do any actual analysis or just data visualization? Pros/Cons? Worthwhile to learn for a GIS analyst?
