Last minute information about the 4-H Fair

New This Year
- 4-H’emmon Contest!!!
4-H'emons have been sighted at the Durham Fairgrounds! This year the New Haven and Middlesex County 4-H Fair scavenger hunt will be based on the popular game, Pokémon Go. You do not need a smart phone or the app to play "4-H GO!" at the fair. Players will be given a sheet to record the 4-H'emons they see as they walk around the fairgrounds. When you find at least 10 you can go to the 4-H GO! Headquarters in the Home Arts Barn to claim your prize and be entered to win a grand prize! Players who find all 20 will receive an additional entry. Kids and teens of all ages are welcome to play. This is a great way to be sure you check out all the exciting exhibits at the fair.

-	Mason Jar Decorating Contest
We received a large donation from Joann Fabrics of all kinds of mason jars. We are challenging everyone to take one of the jars (or use one from your supply at home) and decorate it. Any ideas or any theme will do. Contest is open to anyone connected to the 4-H Fair – judges, members, parents, staff, etc. Special prizes will be given. Pick up a jar or two at Fair registration on Wednesday or Friday. Your final product must be turned into the display in the Home arts building no later than 10 am on Saturday morning.

CT Association of Fairs Pass –
Don’t forget – there is a CT Association of Fairs member pass in each office. These passes can be borrowed on a first come, first serve basis each week during fair season. The pass admits two people to each member fair. It does not cover parking. Call 203-9-407-3161 or 860-345-4511 to reserve a weekend.

Auction at the Fair:
This year’s auction, sponsored by the New Haven 4-H Advisory Committee and NH. Extension Council will be two parts. There will be the usual silent auction which will be conducted from Friday night through Sunday afternoon and a live auction which will be conducted on the stage in the Home arts building starting at 6:30. We have already collected a lot of neat items including nail services, tickets to Comicon at Mohegan Sun, picnic and barbeque supplies and theme baskets. Stop by the home arts building when you are handing in your 4-H’emmon contests and check out all the goodies. There will also be a couple tables of donations from Joann Fabrics available. Donations are gratefully accepted –see Peggy at registration table.

Bringing your exhibits to the 4-H Fair on Wednesday – save time and hassle for Friday:
Registration will be open on Wednesday night from 6:3-0-8:30 – this is the time you can bring any non-perishable Home arts exhibit and set it up. Registration is also open Friday from 12-2 for officers, superintendent and managers. Non-officers have the time from 2 to 6 to bring in their exhibits. Attached are the rules for entering animals. Please remember, EVERYONE must check in with Home arts by Friday afternoon – even youth only showing at the 4-H Dog show on Saturday to get their exhibitor wristbands. If you are only showing an animal, come to the fairgrounds on Wednesday to get that process completed – then you can come on Friday and set up your animals.

Animal Health Concerns:
As people may see they are forecasting very warm temperatures for this weekend. As always we very much want everyone to come and exhibit their project animals at the fair. Please remember, that if you place your animals in exhibit at the fair, they must remain in place until 4pm on Sunday. If you are extremely concerned about the heat – or if your project animal is full time acclimated to air conditioning – you may consider not exhibiting. We want you to make the best decision possible about your project animals. We support whichever choice you make, we just wanted to remind people that early exit for fair animals in not permitted.

Help is still needed:

PULLS
We are looking for help in the Livestock and Mechanical Pull Rings volunteers will be raking in the pits and helping make sure everything runs smoothly. Come for an hour or the whole pull, any help is appreciated. Please contact Patrick Hedden if interested at [log in to unmask] or (203)-228-8102
