MassGIS is seeking to fill two contract positions: a regional (work from home in Springfield, MA area) GIS Field Technician and a GIS Analyst (work at MassGIS office in Boston). Both positions will be part of the team working on MassGIS’ Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) project. Both positions are summarized below and full details are attached. The application deadline for both positions is October 5th.

>> GIS Field Technician

The full-time field work consists of using a browser-based custom-built application on a tablet computer provided by MassGIS to: 1) find the correct location of addresses not assigned to a structure and/or point location and, 2) add new, or link existing, addresses to structure points that lack an address. The primary focus of the work will be “sites” with multiple buildings (e.g., condominium complexes, office parks, academic campuses, and industrial parks). Some portion of the work, although not necessarily the majority, will need to be completed on foot even in cold weather. Interaction with the tablet surface is via a stylus, so gloves can be worn while using the tablet. The tablet has a hand strap. Some of the work can be completed working from anywhere with a broadband Internet connection.

>> GIS Analyst

Next Generation 9-1-1 systems depend on high quality map and address data. Massachusetts has begun deploying a NG911 system in the state’s emergency call centers. As a member of a small team, you will work on upgrading and maintaining components of a complex master address database in support of NG911. All tasks involve editing or otherwise improving the information in a sophisticated, fully relational address data model (emergency service zones, parcels, structures, streets, street names, address points, and master address list). Specific duties will involve GIS data editing. The editing is sometimes completed directly using ArcGIS capabilities but often involves automated editing using custom tools existing SQL or Python scripts. An important element of the work will be significant interaction via phone and email with municipal staff concerning addresses in their community.
