The Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut, a Farmington-based nonprofit, is leading an initiative to train child care providers and others who work with young children to recognize signs of trauma – and to expand the availability of services to help. It’s funded by a $2 million grant from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

CHDI Announces New Initiative to Improve Care
for Young Children Experiencing Trauma

CHDI will lead a collaborative effort to expand services to young children in Connecticut suffering from exposure to trauma. 
 
CHDI's Early Childhood Trauma Collaborative initiative is funded by a five-year $2 million grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Partners include community mental health centers, state agencies, and others.

Connecticut has developed a robust system of trauma-informed care and services for school-aged children. This grant will expand upon that work by developing a system of trauma-informed care and treatment options for children under the age of seven.
