Senior GIS Analyst – East Coast
Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates seeks a highly organized and independent senior GIS analyst to advance its GIS practice. The Senior GIS Analyst may be based in our New York, Boston, or Washington DC office. Nelson\Nygaard is a nationally recognized multimodal transportation planning firm that emphasizes creative and innovative planning and community involvement, often within a wider set of goals of economic development, health, and reduced dependence on the private automobile. We are seeking an individual with at least 3 years of experience and an interest in transportation planning as well as exemplary GIS analysis and cartography skills.

Responsibilities
In this position, the successful candidate will be expected to complete spatial analyses related to demographics, transit planning, parking studies, and pedestrian/bike projects. The analyst may be expected to:

  *   Conduct demographic analysis using U.S. Census, ACS, and LEHD data
  *   Conduct network analysis using GIS Network Analyst extension
  *   Conduct raster-based analysis using GIS Spatial Analyst extension
  *   Produce high-quality maps and graphics using Illustrator or other drawing software
  *   Develop online maps for public engagement using ArcGIS online or other online map tools
  *   Assist in developing budget estimates and scope of work for proposals
As an East Coast GIS lead, the Senior GIS Analyst will also spend half of his or her time on GIS management tasks to enhance the GIS practice at Nelson\Nygaard. The Senior GIS Analyst may be expected to do:

  *   Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to planners and other GIS users
  *   Manage the workflow on the East Coast offices
  *   Develop in-house tools using Python, Modelbuilder, and/or other scripting
  *   Develop a web mapping platform
  *   Provide training for GIS staff and develop training materials
Qualifications and Requirements
Experiences/Abilities as a GIS Analyst
A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a GIS analyst in transportation planning or similar field is required. The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical and cartographic skill, and a good understanding of GIS applications for transportation planning projects. The candidate must have strong proficiency with the following software:

  *   ArcGIS 10.3 or above
  *   ArcGIS extensions (Network Analyst and Spatial Analyst)
  *   Adobe Illustrator
Familiarity with Python scripts, R, and/or web mapping is desirable. The following software is a plus: ArcGIS 3D Analyst extension, MAPPublisher, Mapbox, SketchUp, VectorWorks or CAD, Adobe Photoshop/InDesign, and/or web development.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Geography or Urban Planning or a Graduate Certification in GIS is required.
