Metro anonymizes and aggregates this data to deliver unique insights into how people are riding, running, and walking in their communities. *About the role* Strava Metro is looking for a Lead Software Engineer in the Hanover, NH area to help us build scalable and reliable data pipelines and systems that deliver Metro data and insights to our clients. We're at an exciting point where we are starting to transition to new internal systems with a service-oriented architecture and exploring new ways of delivering insights to a growing base of clients, ranging from small municipalities to large states and countries. We are looking for somebody with both breadth and depth of experience who can lead the engineering effort to build this next generation Metro pipeline and user interface. You have a proven track record of implementing backend infrastructure and can also work effectively on front-end user interfaces. You also have experience leading teams and individual engineers. Your role within Metro will be a lead in both system design and implementation. As our group scales you’ll also lead the development and growth of the engineering team. You will work with our product and engineering teams to design and build these new systems as well as with our customer success team to improve our internal delivery and support processes. Your work will ensure that data and insights are delivered correctly and on time to our clients - ultimately changing the way cities plan their future infrastructure supporting cyclists and pedestrians! *Responsibilities* - Work with the Metro team to design, build, and maintain production systems. - Work with the Strava platform engineering team in San Francisco to ensure that solutions work in the larger Strava engineering ecosystem. - Champion engineering best practices across both Metro and Strava HQ - Proactively identify scaling, reliability, and performance issues and help redesign systems to address them. - Continually improve our internal infrastructure and tools. - Lead Metro engineering. Provide technical feedback, mentorship, and career development to other engineers through code reviews, engineering design reviews, and collaborative problem solving sessions. *Requirements* - B.S. in computer science or equivalent experience plus at least 5 years industry experience. - Experience with large reliable and scalable distributed systems and data pipelines. - Experience with cloud-based services such as Amazon AWS. - Experience with a relational database such as PostgreSQL and ideally one or more NoSQL data stores such as Cassandra. - Experience building both internal and customer-facing web applications. - Experience leading and growing engineering teams. - Excellent programming skills with at least one language such as Ruby, Python, or Scala. *Desired* - Experience with open-source technologies like Docker, Finagle, Kafka, Mesos, Spark, and ZooKeeper. - Experience with GIS concepts, tools, and frameworks.
