Much research has been devoted to development of techniques to improve airborne imaging of underwater features using traditional aircraft equipped with metric-grade cameras. Small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) provide a paradigm shift in efficiency and low cost aerial surveying of marine and coastal zones compared to traditional methods. This presentation will show emergent applications of UAS- based remote sensing and photogrammetry to coastal and marine environments. Topics covered will include the following: (1) structure-from-motion (SfM) photogrammetry and optical inversion for mapping littoral zones; (2) airborne fluid lensing for monitoring of aquatic resources; (3) debris mapping and plastics identification. Time permitting, additional examples on the emergent use of UAS for coastal and marine surveillance will be presented
