Coastal and Marine Surveillance with UAS

Registration URL: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/9180720161997415427
Webinar ID: 328-037-427

Abstract:

Much research has been devoted to development of techniques to improve airborne imaging of underwater features using traditional aircraft equipped with metric-grade cameras. Small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) provide a paradigm shift in efficiency and low cost aerial surveying of marine and coastal zones compared to traditional methods. This presentation will show emergent applications of UAS-based remote sensing and photogrammetry to coastal and marine environments. Topics covered will include the following: (1) structure-from-motion (SfM) photogrammetry and optical inversion for mapping littoral zones; (2) airborne fluid lensing for monitoring of aquatic resources; (3) debris mapping and plastics identification. Time permitting, additional examples on the emergent use of UAS for coastal and marine surveillance will be presented.

Mapping the Great Lakes Coastal and Nearshore Realm: NOAA’s Lake Level Viewer

Registration URL: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4961449843523329795
Webinar ID: 424-676-331

Abstract:

Mapping one of the most dynamic environments in the world, the Great Lakes coastal and nearshore realm presents several challenges even with today’s advancements in remote sensing technologies. This presentation will highlight the work that is involved with data collection, processing, and analysis to help in visualizing coastal and nearshore bathymetry and topography of the Great Lakes and its use in understanding impacts from lake level fluctuations. Additional discussion will focus on NOAA’s Lake Level Viewer as a tool for users to visualize impacts, with a brief demonstration, and how to access the data used behind the tool for use in other mapping applications.
