Important reminder for new UConn students!

All international students on F-1 and J-1 visas must “check-in” with International Student and Scholar Service upon arrival in the United States.  You should check in with ISSS in the first days after your arrival, and no later than August 28 (start day of the semester).  Failure to check-in may result in the termination of your SEVIS record and I-20/DS-2019. This is a requirement of your student visa.

The check-in process is completed online: Check-In Procedure for International Students and Scholars.

You may complete check-in from a personal computer, or you may also visit ISSS on the Storrs campus to complete the check-in in our computer room.  New international students in Stamford campus may visit the ISSS Stamford office during walk-in advising hours if you have questions about the check-in process.  All other students please email [log in to unmask] if you have questions regarding check-in.

Before completing your online check-in, you will need to save certain documents in electronic format (pdf or jpg).  These documents are listed below:

-         Form I-20/DS-2019, signed by you at the bottom of page 1

-          Passport biographical page

-          Visa page in passport (unless you are from Canada/Bermuda)

-          Entry stamp in passport (where immigration stamped upon entry)

-          I-94 admission printout from U.S. Customs and Border Protection Website. Print your I-94 – select “Get Most Recent I-94”. Save a pdf to upload into your check-in form.

-          If you have accompanying family on F-2/J-2 visas, you must prepare the same forms for them.

To prepare your documents, you may use the scanner at ISSS (Storrs), or scanners available in your campus’ library. If you have a smart phone you may take a picture of your documents, but you must make sure they are clear and easy to read.

If your plans have changed and you will NOT study at UConn, please reply to this message immediately to let us know of your cancellation, and destroy your UConn Form I-20/DS-2019 (do not use it to enter the U.S.).

Returning Students: Returning students do not need to check in, but if you have traveled during the summer and have received a new passport, visa or I-94, you must submit a copy to ISSS, either in person or by email to [log in to unmask] . You should also remember to print a new I-94 for your own records, and to verify that you have been properly admitted in your correct visa status, for D/S (duration of status).
