GIS Cloud Co-Located Training Event Tuesday, August 15

GIS Cloud is organizing a co-located Training Event alongside the FOSS4G 2017 Conference. Attendance is free, even for non FOSS4G visitors. It will be held on Tuesday, August 15th in Boston, MA at the Seaport Hotel and Trade Center (Harborview 3) from 9 am – 3 pm.  Learn first hand about cutting-edge mapping technology that enables you to collaborate in real time on a map, mobile data collection in offline mode, listen to technical talks as well as diverse case studies from different communities around the world. See the full schedule and register.

Harpoon Signup Reminder

Note: the Harpoon event on Tuesday August 15th is reserved for those conference attendees who registered by May 16 (the "Early Bird" deadline). For those who are eligible please see this message below:

Due to the very enthusiastic response to our Early Bird registration package (thank you!) we are a little overbooked on the space. As a result we are asking those eligible for the Harpoon Brewery to choose either an early (7:30-9pm) or late (9-10:30pm) session.  Since the venue does not offer food other than pretzels, we encourage you to consider either having dinner first and then attending or attend and then leave for dinner.  If people can be mindful of their time and share the event with others we would appreciate it - we promise everyone will get a chance!  If you haven't already responded please look for the Eventbrite invitation in your email inbox (or possibly your spam folder).

Not eligible for the Tuesday Harpoon event?  The Harpoon Brewery is open to the public Sunday-Wednesday 11am-7pm and Thursday-Saturday 11am-11pm.  Tours are offered frequently.  (During the Tuesday evening event a look at the production process is possible but it will not be a narrated tour.)  It is approximately a 12 minute walk (0.5 mile or 900m) straight down Seaport Blvd/Northern Ave.  Might be a good location for a Birds of Feather (BoF)...

Greater Boston Tech Highlights

On the Harvard University campus check out the Putnam Gallery for Harvard's Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments. Since 1672 Harvard University has been acquiring scientific instruments on a continuous basis for teaching and research. The collection includes instruments relating to navigation, surveying and geology.

If you have some time, explore some sites in the Boston area that have had a significant role in tech history. These sites are highlighted in the Boston Nerd Tour.

Our logo designer Craig Austin has designed several tours of Boston including "Globes of Boston" and "Outstanding Map Displays and Collections".  While file download requires membership, the coordinates can be read on the page itself.

FOSS4G is the annual global event of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo). Although widely recognized as the largest technical geospatial Open Source conference we call FOSS4G an "event" because it is far more than "just" a conference. A typical FOSS4G will include regular presentations and talks, but also code sprints, birds of a feather sessions, workshops, topic talks and of course social events.
