Please be aware that as of February 3, 2017, a new HUD rule was implemented requiring each public housing agency administering public housing to implement a smoke-free policy.  The purpose of the rule is to improve indoor air quality in public housing and to benefit the health of public housing residents, visitors and staff with the goal to improve health outcomes.

Within 18 months of the rule going into effect, each housing agency must implement a "smoke-free" policy banning the use of prohibited tobacco products in all public housing living units, indoor common areas in public housing, and in administrative office buildings and must extend the policy to all outdoor areas up to 25 feet from the public housing and administrative office buildings.

The Center for Children's Advocacy's Medical-Legal Partnership contributed to comments sent to HUD regarding the rule.  This rule change will impact many of the families we work with but will also improve children's health.  We would love any feedback you have on how this might impact the children and families you work with.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
