Workshop title: Navigating the GISP Certification
Led by Tripp Corbin

Will run concurrently (at the same time) as the presentation sessions

This workshop will provide great insight into the GISP Certification process.  If you are someone who interested in obtaining your GISP, someone who wants to know more about the process or someone who wants to know if it is worth the time and effort, then this workshop has great benefits to you!

Workshop description

Having a certification is becoming increasingly important within the GIS Industry and the GIS Certified Professional or GISP is one of the most recognize certifications. As a result, many young and old professionals alike are working to add this credential to their resume.

However, navigating the process of the application and exam is not always so clear cut. This workshop will take you through the basic process from start to finish. You will learn a little about this history of the GISP certification. The workshop will explain the portfolio application and how to properly complete it. You will also learn a little more about how the exam came to be and what topics it covers.  Lastly you will be able to ask questions from someone that has help the GISP Certification for over 10 years and served on the GISP Application review committee for most of that time.

Presentation Title: Building a stronger and better URISA

Things they are a changing for URISA. After over 15 years of discussion, URISA is finally moving forward to create a united membership so that all chapter members will URISA International members and all URISA International Members will be members of their local chapter. URISA International President, Tripp Corbin, will explain some of this history behind the OneURISA initiative, what you can hope to expect as members and the overall timeline associated with this change.

 


We are still looking for at least 1 more volunteer!!!  Volunteers will help out with the registration table amongst other minor tasks and will be given a free admission to the conference!

Fall NEARC

The 2017 Fall NEARC Conference will be held Sunday, November 5 - Wednesday, November 8 at the Newport Marriott in Newport, Rhode Island. Registration is OPEN! Review the conference schedule, then sign up to participate. Download the postcard to share with a colleague.

NEARC is not just for the GIS faithful. Yes, NEARC is for GIS practitioners, but NEARC is for anyone who wants to see the value GIS technology brings to their own environment and the world. This conference is very valuable for new users as well as those who have been using GIS for many years.

If you are going to attend NEARC this fall, you might consider also bringing along your Supervisor, Town Manager, DPW Director, IT Director, and your Finance Manager; anyone who would benefit from seeing the value of GIS first hand. You will absolutely walk away saying "NEARC is worth every penny!"

DESIGN CONTEST FOR FALL NEARC 2017 IN NEWPORT, RI

Deadline: Friday, October 13

The host committee is looking for a creative design for the conference attendee give-away (an insulated lunch cooler). Although there isn’t a defined program theme, the design should incorporate the location/sense of place and the NEARC logo. The imprint area will be approximately 8" W x 6” H and should be designed in one color (white) to appear on a color background. The winner will receive a cool prize, recognition at the Awards Banquet, and bragging rights. All submissions must be sent to[log in to unmask] no later than Friday October 13th.

RESERVE YOUR OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS

Deadline: Monday, October 16

Overnight accommodations are available at the Newport Marriott at a discounted group rate of $155/night plus tax (currently at 13%). Reservations must be made on or before the cut-off date of Monday, October 16, 2017 in order to be eligible for the group rate. Please be aware that NEARC works on behalf of its constituents by negotiating favorable rates with the host hotel, and receives complimentary meeting space and other concessions because of our room block contract commitment with the hotel.
