Hello,
The Road Inventory Submission Application (RISA) is now live. A tool that allows local or regional governments the ability to submit changes to the Massachusetts Road Inventory File (RIF) using an online portal, this process will replace
traditional New Road Update Forms, the generation and processing of which was reportedly counterintuitive.
RISA allows users to add new roads to the RIF and
update existing road attribute information. If you would like to identify areas where
geometry should be adjusted, you should choose the Update Existing Road workflow, and write
“Update geometry” in the comment field. The tool also allows users to attach documents, intended for road acceptance vote records to justify jurisdiction changes.
Municipal governments vary in structure, so the appropriate party to update roads might be different for each town. In some places, highway superintendents manage road data, while in others it might be a city engineer, or planner, or GIS
analyst. If you feel as though there is a more suitable candidate for these sort of activities, feel free to share this information.
The log in credentials will be the same as your
geoDOT account. You may contact me directly to give your existing account access or to request a new RISA-enabled geoDOT account.
If you would like more information about the new process MassDOT GIS will be
hosting a presentation and workshop event at the annual Moving Together Conference on November 1st. If you run into problems using the tool or want more information about road data in your municipality or region, the MassDOT GIS office is always available
as a resource.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!
