Esri has just announced for the ArcGIS Platform that security changes are
scheduled for implementation in February 2019. These changes could impact
the use of web services from ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise/Server.

Next February Esri will be dropping support for TLS 1.1 and earlier. It will
only support TLS 1.2 and newer. What is TLS you may ask? TLS stands for
Transport Layer Security. It provides data privacy and integrity between
applications communicating over a network including the internet. TLS has
replaced the older SSL as a more effective and efficient way to securely
communicate across a network. TLS does this by having stronger message
authentication, key-material generation and other encryption algorithms.

To learn more about TLS and how it works, check out these links:

If you are currently using ArcGIS Online services such as basemaps, data
layers, web maps and geoprocessing services, then you have been using TLS to
access those items. Depending on how your ArcGIS Enterprise/Server is setup,
you most likely are using TLS for it as well.

How will this impact you moving forward? You will need to install patches
that allow ArcGIS to use the newer version of TLS. Esri is working on those
patches right now. They should be released soon. We will try to keep you
posted as we receive new information.

This will be on top of the changes to ArcGIS Online which are coming on
December 4 in an update. Don't forget about this as well. One of the biggest
changes the December 4th update will implement are the new user types. This
video will explain the new user types - https://youtu.be/TpcnnDiuvWc

We hope you have found this information useful. We will keep you posted as
we learn more.
