** APOLOGIES FOR THE CROSS POSTING ** TOWN OF SOUTH WINDSOR ENGINEERING INTERN/CO-OPERATIVE STUDENT The South Windsor Public Works Engineering Division is currently searching for a Civil Engineering/GIS intern for our office. The intent is to hire someone for winter break that can work through the spring part time and into next summer. The work hours can vary from as little as 4 hrs/week during the winter to as much as 37.5 hrs/week during the summer. Nature of Work Assist Engineering Division in daily operations and the planning and design of Town projects involving drainage improvements, road improvements, sidewalks and other facilities. May use AutoCAD to help develop conceptual drainage and transportation projects. May perform engineering calculations and analysis to support preparation of design plans and cost estimates. May work on the Town GIS System, and use GPS unit to collect data and locate facilities in the field. Will use Word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs. Assist in the inspection of road paving projects, drainage improvements, sidewalk repairs and construction, and other Town Projects. Research plans, maps and permits in Engineering and Town Clerks Files. Interact with the public Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Ability Enrolled in good standing (B or above) as a Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate student in a undergraduate or graduate Civil Engineering Program at an accredited college or university. Prior relevant coursework, Knowledge of basic engineering principles and methods, ability to read and interpret engineering plans, capacity to perform complex mathematical calculations, Good organizational skills, good technical writing, analytical and communication skills, ability to work independently and with others, experience with computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and GPS applications. Possession of a valid driver's license required. Must be in good physical condition. Must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions. Normal working hours are M-F 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Other hours may be arranged.
